What is considered a Patient Sensitive Position?
U of U Health faculty and staff in positions involving patient contact, patient diagnostic or therapeutic functions, research patient/participant contact, or positions in which the individual works in or has job-related access to patient care areas. Please contact your HR Representative if you have questions about positions that would be considered patient sensitive.
The requirements to fill these positions are different than regular staff positions because they are regulated by the DNV. The checklist below will help you track what has been done and what still needs to be done before the hire can be finalized.
Your department is responsible for onboarding employees who will be working in patient sensitive areas.

1 | Prior to offering a position, department ensures required Licenses/Certifications are verified | |
2 | Department extends offer to applicant once Licenses/Certifications are verified. | |
3 | Once applicant accepts offer, send email to candidate with all Pre-Employment Info and appropriate attachments listed below - this is to give candidate time to look for their records. Immunization Requirements Form, Immunization Policy, List of I9 Acceptable Documents, Security & Confidentiality Agreement, Hospital Dress Code (if applicable), PROMISE Behavior Standards, Hospital floor map (if applicable) | |
4 | On the hiring proposal, request background check and drug screen within 48 hours after the offer is accepted. | |
5 | Once the results of the background check and drug test are ready, your HR Contact will notify you | |
6 | New Employee Orientation (NEO) is required and will be assigned in Bridge on the date of hire. Clinical online LMS modules will be required and assigned automatically. | |
7 | Department submits Hire e-PAF. | |
8 | Department ensures the I-9 is completed on or before the new employee's first day on the job. |
